Forward modelling of the time-lapse gravity signal for a CCS prospect

Forward modelling of the time-lapse gravity response directly from a reservoir model is performed to test the viability of time-lapse gravity measurements for inclusion in the MMV program of a CCS in Texas USA. Two alternative scenarios are tested, and a measurable gravity change of 8.5 μGal is modelled within 5 years for both scenarios. Varying the permeability across faults has a significant impact on the gravity signal, but takes longer than 5 years to discriminate between the two modelled end member scenarios.

Abstract

Forward modelling of the time-lapse gravity response directly from a reservoir model is performed to test the viability of time-lapse gravity measurements for inclusion in the MMV program of a CCS in Texas USA. Two alternative scenarios are tested, and a measurable gravity change of 8.5 μGal is modelled within 5 years for both scenarios. Varying the permeability across faults has a significant impact on the gravity signal, but takes longer than 5 years to discriminate between the two modelled end member scenarios.
