Utilizing 4D seismic to investigate early water breakthrough and influence future drilling plans at Holstein Field
In 2022, Occidental acquired a new 4D seismic monitor survey over the Holstein Field in deepwater central Gulf of Mexico (GOM). This survey is the fourth seismic 4D survey acquired over the field (2000, 2006, 2013, 2022) and the third monitor survey since production commenced. During acquisition of this monitor survey, the first and only well completed in the Holstein I Sand reservoir began to exhibit signs of early water breakthrough, one year after first production. This paper is a case study on the integrated workflow utilized to interpret the 4D seismic results and take action to modify the development plan for the reservoir based on the new 4D monitor survey.
