Validation of an undrilled 4D response and its use in dynamic modeling to close the loop: An example from a deepwater field, Gulf of Mexico
4D Seismic is an important tool in optimizing management of amplitude supported reservoirs, enabling the assessment of dynamic changes in subsurface properties over time due to production activities. This technique involves repeated seismic surveys, which are analyzed to monitor variations in reservoir attributes such as fluid saturation, pressure, and porosity. The “close the loop” method (CTL) includes the iterative process of matching both historic production data and 4D seismic response, resulting in improved forecast accuracy and associated asset management decision quality. This paper underscores the critical role of 4D response validation and 4D Close the Loop methodology in reservoir management, illustrated by a case study from a deepwater field in the Gulf of Mexico.
