Unlocking potential: A holistic approach to water, energy, and food security nexus in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Morocco
The Water-Energy-Food nexus (WEF) has become a prominent way to systematically understand and manage trade-offs and synergies between the water, energy, and food sectors. Through improved definition and conceptualization, the paper improves understanding of the nexus approach, which could be an obstacle to its implementation. The paper's objective is to analyze the present state of the WEF nexus in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, which is located in northern Morocco, using a Hoff analytical framework. In addition, the paper presents a conceptual model that explains the synergies and trade-offs of the WEF Nexus elements specifically for the region. In conclusion, the region has an abundance of water, energy, and food that can be properly managed using the WEF Nexus approach.
