Millimeter Wave Full-Duplex Systems: System-Level Evaluation and Over-the-Air Verification
With much work having been done in the last decade, the deployment of full-duplex (FD) communication has become imminent in fifth-generation (5G) advanced wireless communications. Combined with millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication, already mature in 5G, mmWave FD communication is envisioned as a key technology for achieving the increasing spectral efficiency requirements of sixth-generation (6G) wireless communications. Thus, to understand the benefit of mmWave FD communication, we investigate its system-level gain over the half-duplex (HD) communication in different scenarios. We also study various self-interference (SI) mitigation techniques, including passive isolation and nonlinear digital cancellation, which are crucial in enabling the mmWave FD communication in practical systems. Then, through the over-the-air (OTA) measurements, we evaluate the performances of SI mitigation techniques in the mmWave FD communication.
