Evaluation of Costal Cartilage and Restore the Function in Treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Immobility

The aim of this work was to assess the Inter positional graft after the release of a bony union of the temporomandibular join.14 patients with bony union of the temporomandibular joint were selected. In these patients, they replaced with Interposition material, and the patients were followed clinically and radiographically for 10 months.Of the 15 grafts, results of the present study found good remodeling in 10 patients (70%), re ankylosis in 3 patients (20%), and resorption of the graft in 2 patients (10%).The examination of the opening was satisfactory (more than 35mm) in 10 of the 15 patients (67%), unsatisfactory (between 5 and 25mm) in 3 (20%), and the operation was a failure in 2 (13%).This work demonstrated that the Interposition costal cartilage is a suitable material for interposition arthroplasty. The physical rehabilitation appears key element in the success of this procedure.
