Patrick Chamoiseau's L'empreinte à Crusoé : A Variation of the Robinsonnade for a Globalized Late-Liberal Capitalist World
Abstract: This study highlights how discourses on slavery and imperialism in Robinson Crusoe and in Patrick Chamoiseau's reboot provide insights into the formation of the modern world and encapsulate questions of inequality and exploitation. By rethinking the past and resituating it in a context of mondialisation , Chamoiseau offers a penetrating analysis of the contemporaneous human condition and avenues for transcendence. By engaging with the Self, the Other, and the non-human world relationally through a poetics that aims to fully embrace the plénitude d'individuation , fresh spaces are open for ground-breaking, radical change to shake the foundations of our economics and politics.
