The Role of Federalism in Enhancing Political Trust and Governance in Somalia

This study examines The Role of Federalism in Enhancing Political Trust and Governance in Somalia, focusing on the period from its adoption to the present. Federalism, characterized by the division of power between national and local governments, presents both opportunities and challenges in a context marked by historical clan rivalries and centralization. The research highlights the importance of political trust as a foundation for effective governance and citizen engagement. Through a qualitative analysis of existing literature, the study identifies key factors that influence trust levels, including inclusive governance practices, the role of international actors, and the complexities of clan politics. The findings reveal that while federalism can enhance local governance and empower communities, it also risks fragmentation and competition among regional authorities. The study underscores the necessity of clear legal frameworks and collaborative governance approaches to foster cooperation and mitigate tensions. Keywords: Federalism, Political Trust, Governance, Somalia
