Electrochemical machining with identical polarity of tool and workpiece: A feasibility study
The prevailing belief is that anodic dissolution in electrochemical machining occurs only when the tool and workpiece are connected to a D.C. power supply’s negative and positive terminals. However, the present work challenges this convention by exploring alternative possibilities for achieving anodic dissolution. Two new configurations are investigated, in which both the tool and workpiece are connected to the same polarity, either both positive or both negative. Numerical and experimental studies were conducted to support these claims. In contrast to the existing convention, the effect of equal polarity was analyzed by examining the machined hole diameter and using light-emitting diode.
