Advancing Extracorporeal Life Support in the South-West Asian and African Continent

Carrying on the legacy of crossing boundaries from the previous conferences, we are privileged to host the South-West Asia and Africa Chapter of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (SWAAC-ELSO) for the second time in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. As an ELSO chapter representing representing the most populous and diverse regions of the world, our call for abstracts attracted a tremendous response. These abstracts reflect the regional healthcare economics and dynamics. 11th SWAAC ELSO Conference Abstract Committee extensively reviewed the abstract submissions and has decided to accept 54 for poster presentation and top 5 abstracts have been chosen as oral presentation. To further enhance the academic mission of SWAAC ELSO and to inspire better quality of publications, the abstract committee has been more selective in the preparation of this special issue of the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs (ASAIO) Journal. The abstracts included represent contributions from all corners of the world and encapsulates the diversity in providing Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) in this region. In addition to disseminating valuable lessons, another objective of the committee is to foster collaboration from various regions with in SWAAC ELSO to enhance patient centered research. We are grateful for the contributions of all authors who have shared their work, as valuable lessons can be learnt from successes as much as from failures. We sincerely hope that quality of the submission will continue to motivate future generation of researchers. The abstracts submitted for this special issue reflect SWAAC ELSO’s commitment to crossing boundaries and overcoming challenges together. We also hope that you find this special issue of the ASAIO Journal a valuable contribution for patient care. The SWAAC ELSO 2025 Abstract Committee. References: 1. Al-Dabbous T, Alinier G, Rabie AA.
