CFD Simulation for Monitoring and Ensuring Optimal Performance of Transformers

Electricity has become an important part of the lives of modern people because of its need in the domestic and the industrial services. Due to the different ratings of electricity required in the different regions it becomes mandatory to maintain the electricity by stepping up or stepping down it with the aid of transformers. Ensuring the proper and safe usage of transformers, especially in remote areas, is a monumental and challenging task requiring meticulous attention to detail, comprehensive maintenance, thorough inspections, and adherence to safety protocols, with the difficulties further amplified by limited access to resources and specialized personnel. This study revolves around monitoring the flow characteristics of the transformer coolant fluid. Flow variables which include temperature, velocity and pressure are affected by load variations. The aim of this study is to ensure that there is continuous power supply as a part of a larger study that incorporates thousands of transformers operating at different locations. Monitoring of these transformers is done through connecting each transformer to data hubs at manufacturer site and power distribution company site by displaying the Augmented Reality of each transformer with real time support data statistically.
