Securing the Pulse of Healthcare: A Survey of IoMT Security Challenges and AI-Powered Defenses

In this revolutionizing era of technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) has gained massive importance. One of its subsets is the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), providing a versatile platform where patients, practitioners, physicians, and other stakeholders can collaborate. This has enhanced the importance of technology in healthcare, assisted with artificial intelligence. Due to its emerging significance and synergy, IoMT is also susceptible to potential threats affecting branches such as medical devices, telemedicine, remote patient monitoring, and cloud healthcare infrastructure. This paper is primarily based on a thorough, critical, and comparative analysis that highlights certain potential vulnerabilities and their respective AI-based solutions. It is evident that AI is mitigating the risks and security threats affecting IoMT branches, but it is also opening new doors for adversaries to attack and compromise their security. This impact of AI can be eradicated or minimized with keen human intervention. Hence, the security of IoMT branches is highlighted in this paper along with their respective AI solutions, along with certain future recommendations to excel in this tech race.
