Distribution System Enhancement Based on Power Electronics Converter with Corona Herd Immunity Optimizer
Electric distribution systems are a platform where consumers finally get power for loads. Enhancing the performance of a distribution system is a strategy that is continuously updated due to the vast changes its enduring. In this work, the enhancement of such a system is implemented by connection of back to back converters at certain buses. Since these converters deliver controlled power flow at the points of connections, a key challenge is finding the values of such powers. In this work, an optimization process is formulated to find the optimal values of controlled power for the converter set. The approach is based on a recently developed Corona Herd Immunity optimizer (CHIO) that reflects the COVID 2019 epidemic. This optimizer adopts solutions for populations that have gained immunity as a result of infection. The CHIO is implemented on a test distribution with the objective of reducing active power losses. Results proves the proficiency and reliability of CHIO in obtaining solutions with minimal losses that can raise the efficiency of the system. Simulations carried out in MATLAB adopted several locations of converters position with and without distributed generation connection.
