Design of Circular Microstrip Antenna for Partial Discharge Measurement in High Voltage Equipment
In this study a circular microstrip antenna was designed to detect partial discharge (PD) in high voltage equipment. This antenna design has a relatively small size. It could detect PD in air, oil and solid insulation media. There are several ways to achieve the expected results as designed an antenna, including cutting the ground and adding an 'i' slot to the antenna ground by trial and error to achieve the objective of antenna. The advantage of this antenna is that it can detect in a horizontal or vertical position. The goals used in the parameters of this antenna include operating frequencies of 200 MHz - 1.8 GHz, return loss less than -10 dB, VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) less than 2, input impedance of 50 Ω, gain value greater than 2 dB and omnidirectional radiation pattern. The result antenna design uses an 18 x 11 cm2 circular patch and is proven to detect partial discharge in air, oil and solid insulation media. According to the simulation results, this antenna design has an optimum frequency of 0.94 GHz.
