Optimizing of Protection Coordination Overcurrent Relay Using Adaptive Modified Firefly Algorithm in Gases Industrial

Protection coordination has an active support power in an electric power system for system reliability, recognizing abnormal conditions, and selective properties to isolate disturbances so that they do not spread, thus securing other equipment. The use of overcurrent relay in electrical network systems is due to its fast response characteristics, flexible protection coordination settings, and optimization between the main and backup relays to avoid protection failure. This paper, using Adaptive Modified Firefly Algorithm (AMFA) optimization method is used to obtain the optimal overcurrent relays value in the electrical network system. The AMFA method aims to obtain the optimal Time Dial Setting (TDS) value so that the total operating time can be faster and more precise accurating of time to insulated trouble with implementation using MATLAB and ETAP software to simulate the results. The results confirm that relay 9 has a primary time to operate of 0.1009s and a secondary operating time of 0.0000s, confirming that the performance time gap between the secondary and primary relays remains within 0.2s. As well, relays R.P2.CF3.F5, R.P2.CF3.F2, and R.P2.CF1.F2 showcase identical total primary and secondary operating times, calculated as 0.1009s, 0.3013s, and 0.4961s.
