Design of PID-Based Buck-Boost Converter for Battery Charging in Regenerative Braking System of BLDC Motor

As human life evolves, energy consumption increases significantly, prompting various efforts to conserve energy. One such effort involves transitioning from gasoline vehicles to electric ones, focusing on energy savings based on LCGC and zero emissions. This led to research on regenerative braking systems using a Buck-Boost Converter with PID control. The study conducted two sets of tests: one with PID control and another without. Determination of PID parameter value in this research using trial and error method. The motor used was a BLDC motor with a 12 V/12 Ah battery, where the charging voltage limit was 14.7 Volts. Researchers conducted test with varying duty Cyle values, namely duty-cyle values 30% to 60%. From the results of testing without control, the highest battery charging efficiency value is obtained when braking, which is 90.1% with a duty-cyle value of 40%. While the test results using PID control, obtained the highest battery charging efficiency value of 90,63%, with Kp=2, Ki=0,4 and Kd=20.
