Mobile-Based Nutrition and Physical Activity Management for Diabetes Patients Using Google Fit and React Native

In modern society, unhealthy diets are a significant contributor to the prevalence of diabetes, a chronic condition that disrupts the body's ability to regulate blood glucose levels. Effective diabetes management requires a combination of regular physical activity and medical nutritional therapy. Daily caloric needs, which are critical for managing diabetes, vary based on individual factors such as height, weight, gender, age, and level of physical activity. This study introduces DiaDoc, a Diabetes Health Management System that leverages mobile technology to manage nutrition and physical activity. The system utilizes the "Guidelines for the Management and Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Indonesia 2021" to calculate personalized daily calorie requirements and generate tailored food recommendations for users. Additionally, the Google Fit API is integrated to monitor users' physical activity by tracking their step counts. Five users participated in a feature test involving twelve tasks to evaluate the system, achieving a 94.1% success rate, indicating the application's high functionality and usability. The system's accuracy and effectiveness were further validated by a nutritionist, who used the application’s calculations and nutritional advice to assess its performance, resulting in an overall score of 80%. Furthermore, a three-day validation test with five patients demonstrated a 3.44% improvement in fasting blood sugar (FBS) stability, highlighting the application’s potential in assisting patients with diabetes to manage their blood sugar levels effectively.
