Optimal Placement of Insertion Transformers in Distribution system

One of the most frequent problems in distribution system planning is determining the location of the insert transformer. Determining the location of the insert transformer has bring impact on network efficiency in the distribution system. This research aims to optimize the placement of insert transformers to reduce overload, increase voltage and reduce losses in the distribution system. To achieved the aim of this research, genetic algorithm as applied to define the optimal placement of transformer insertion in distribution system. In this research, there were 3 distribution substations that were analyzed, called KMO 177, KMO 218 and KMO 219. Based on this research indicated that the overload and losses can be reduced and the voltage can be increased. For KMO 177, overload decreased from 89.3% to be 50.1%, the voltage increased from 384 Volt to be 391 Volt and the losses can be reduced from 1.23 kW to be 0.31 kW. For KMO 218, overload decreased from 85.3% to be 49.5%, the voltage increased from 370 Volt to be 383 Volt and the losses can be reduced from 1.45 kW to be 0.39 kW. Similarly, overload decreased from 88.9% to be 54.8%, the voltage increased from 378 Volt to be 385 Volt and the losses can be reduced from 1.70 kW to be 0.46 kW for KMO 219. This research is applied in Kotamobagu, North Sulawesi-Indonesia.

One of the most frequent problems in distribution system planning is determining the location of the insert transformer. Determining the location of the insert transformer has bring impact on network efficiency in the distribution system.
