Development A Microstrip Antenna Array with 8 Elements and Dolph-Chebyshev Distribution for Capturing Signals from the Himawari-8 Satellite

This research presents a concept for a linear microstrip antenna array with rectangular elements, intended to serve as the feed antenna for a parabolic reflector system at ground stations receiving data from the Himawari-8 satellite. The device`s antenna is engineered to operate within frequencies between 3.8 and 4.2 GHz. The design of a linear array microstrip antenna was modeled using CST Microwave Studio software. The antenna was constructed on a Rogers RT/Duroid-5880 substrate, which has a thickness of 1.575 mm and a dielectric constant of 2.2. This research using various approaches and strategies are employed, including the proximity couple feed method, corporate feed approach, Dolph-Chebyshev technique, Wilkinson unequal power divider procedure, and parabolic reflector system. A 1×8 linear array antenna design was modeled, resulting in the following performance characteristics a bandwidth of 721.9 MHz operating between 3.7069 and 4.4288 GHz, a peak gain at 16.17 dB at 4.148 GHz, a horizontal half-power beamwidth (HPBW) of 6.5°, a vertical HPBW of 46.5°, and a directional radiation pattern. The 1×8 linear array antenna, when used as feed for 2.4-meter parabolic reflector, achieves the following performance characteristics a bandwidth of 721.9 MHz, spanning from 3.7069 to 4.4288 GHz, a peak gain of 30.69 dB at 4.148 GHz, half-power beamwidth (HPBW) of 7.7° horizontally and 1.4° vertically, and directional radiation pattern.
