CAR T cells for hematological malignancies

For decades, the success of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant has highlighted the role of T cells in eliminating hematological tumors. This proof of concept pioneered the practice of the ex vivo generation and adoptive transfer of tumor-specific T cells (ATC), which became an effective modality, for example, for virus-associated diseases, like Epstein-Barr-virus-associated post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders.

Abstract

For decades, the success of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant has highlighted the role of T cells in eliminating hematological tumors. This proof of concept pioneered the practice of the ex vivo generation and adoptive transfer of tumor-specific T cells (ATC), which became an effective modality, for example, for virus-associated diseases, like Epstein-Barr-virus-associated post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders.
