The Structural Relationship between Supervisor’s Multicultural Competence, Role Conflict, Working Alliance, and Supervisees’ Non-disclosure

The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural relationship between supervisor’s multicultural competence, role conflict, working alliance, supervisees’ non-disclosure. A structural equation model including the four variables was formulated based on previous studies. 207 counselors-in-training who experienced non-disclosure in supervision within 2 years answered a survey. Results indicated that supervisor’s multicultural competence was negatively related to supervisees’ non-disclosure in total effect. Supervisor’s multicultural competence was negatively related to role conflict, and positively related to working alliance, which mediated the relationship between supervisor’s multicultural competence and supervisees’ non-disclosure. However, supervisor’s multicultural competence directly increased on supervisees’ non-disclosure when excluding indirect effects. Based on the results, the ways to reduce supervisees’ non-disclosure were discussed.
