A BIBLIOTECONOMIA NO CONTEXTO MULTICULTURAL

This article is based on evidence that indicates that, both in the initial and continuing education of librarians and information scientists, there is a gap regarding approaches to subjects related to Multiculturalism. It investigates the theme, from a qualitative and quantitative approach, in scientific production in the area of Library Science and Information Science. It considers the theoretical framework of Multiculturalism and Metric Studies in scientific production. It highlights the importance of building a thematic repository and presents guidelines for its elaboration. This study brings evidence that the access and visibility of Multiculturalism are compromised mainly due to the fact that the scientific production in the area is presented in a disorganized way. It is desirable that the productions be concentrated in a space in the area dedicated to the theme in order to facilitate the search. It contributes to meet the informational demand of researchers and professionals interested in the debate on Multiculturalism, adding to the works that have already discussed its relevance to the area.
