Sensor Spiralization
The “sensor spiralization” means: the inner-configuration-change-based sensor is fabricated into the spiral structure to endow it with the ability to induce the eddy current effect, which makes a single sensor possess not only the inner-configuration-change-based sensing function but also the extrinsic-structure-shape-based sensing function. The flexible pressure sensor spiralization is taken as the cutting-in point: the conductive polymer composite, which is intrinsically flexible and pressure sensitive, is fabricated to a component with a spiral structure to establish the relation between the tunneling effect and the eddy current effect, to make the component possess the ability to realize not only the pressure measurement but also the noncontact gap measurement. The idea “sensor spiralization” can be expanded into other kinds of sensors. The temperature sensor and the humidity sensor are used as examples of the aforementioned expansion, and the experimental results show that a single spiralized sensor cannot only measure the temperature/humidity but also can detect the noncontact gap. The values of the idea in the aspect of the material-effect-mechanisms lie in that: the “sensor spiralization” fuses the eddy current effect and other physical/chemical/biological sensing effects together, thereby to offer a chance to find new phenomena and new rules in exploring the sensing mechanisms of the matter. The values in the general sensor theory lie in that: a new branch of the sensor theory is constructed through adding the new theories/characteristics/conceptions brought by the “sensor spiralization” into the measurement field.
