Experimental study on scour protection method based on EICP with anti-permeation covers

The local scour around piles significantly affects the stability of its superstructure. This paper proposes an in-situ foundation reinforcement method based on EICP grouting and anti-permeation covers to mitigate soil scour. Tests on scour protection around monopile were conducted in the bed load flume and focused on the impact of different methods. Results indicate that EICP grouting combined with a collar exhibited the most effective scour resistance, with an average penetration resistance of 0.30 MPa and a scour depth of 0.12 D p , enhancing the theoretical protection area by 173 % compared to EICP grouting alone. The EICP grouting with anti-permeation covers ranked second, with an average penetration resistance of 1.868 MPa and a scour depth of 0.86 D p , enhancing the theoretical protection area by 111 % compared to EICP grouting alone. Additionally, placing anti-permeation covers and grouting points closer to the pile further optimized performance, achieving a penetration resistance of 1.889 MPa, reducing scour depth to 0.46 Dp, and limiting sediment transport by over 60 %, because the generated cementation can surround the pile. The findings confirm that EICP grouting, especially when integrated with traditional protective measures like collars, effectively reinforce monopile foundation in saturated bed. This method offers environmentally friendly solutions for enhancing sandy seabed stability and has promising engineering applications.
