A Study of Subjectivity on Clothing Repair Using Q Methodology
This study aimed to analyze and categorize the subjective perceptions of clothing repair among adult males and females and examine the characteristics associated with each perception type. The findings of this study led to recommendations for clothing repair practices. Participants were categorized into three categories according to their perception of clothing repair: (1) “dimensionally adjustable positive repair type,” (2) “practical design change positive type,” and (3) “length-adjustable positive type considering the environment.” Based on this type of perception, the implications for clothing repair are as follows: To have the necessary expertise, clothing repair companies should specialize in either design-oriented or dimension-oriented repair. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of consumer preferences regarding clothing repair. Future research should investigate repair practices across different age groups and genders to increase the value of clothing and improve garment fit.
