Experimental Investigation On The Production Of Biogas And Effect Of Sewage Concentration On Sustainability In Anaerobic Reactors
In the present work, the effect of sewage concentration on the production of biogas is studied under anaerobic digestion conditions.Samples are collected, properly mixed in various concentrations in air tight bottles and are settled in warm water bath. The process is carried out in two batches based on concentration levels of sewage water in cow dung. Results proved that 20 % and 30% sewage water concentration levels produced highest biogas yield. Moreover, 20% concentrated sewage water sample has maximum methane content as identified by gas chromatography.Further, pH analysis, Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) analysis, Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), Total Solid (TS) and Volatile Solid (VS) analysis tests of the samples are performed and concrete conclusions are drawn based on the test results. It is concluded by the pH analysis results that acidity level of the samples increased due to anaerobic digestion process for both batches 1 and 2. Similarly, TDS analysis test for batch 1 suggests that due to anaerobic digestion process, TDS percentage increases for 100% cow dung and 10% sewage water sample but decreases for 20% sewage water concentration sample. For batch 2, TDS percentage decreases for all three sewage water concentrated samples.Similarly for TS analysis, TS percentage values decreases due to decomposition for both batches 1 and 2 samples. In addition, VS analysis test results concluded that for batch 1 only 100% cow dung sample showed increase in value. For batch 2, all three concentrated sewage water samples showed decrease in VS percentage due to decomposition.
