“Comparative Evaluation of Physical Properties of L-PRF and A-PRF+ - An Invitro Study”

BACKGROUND: Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) has been extensively used in the field of regenerative therapy, but there is little evidence to know their properties. Moreover among various PRFs, there are no previous published literature comparing the physical properties of L-PRF (Leukocyte-Platelet Rich Fibrin) and A-PRF+ (Advanced Platelet Rich Fibrin).AIM: To compare and evaluate the physical properties of L-PRF and A-PRF+ alone and with antibiotics (amoxicillin, ofloxacin and gentamycin) among three groups.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Blood was collected from 42 subjects and 0.5 ml of antibiotics were added to respective tubes and centrifuged as per protocol to obtain L-PRF and A-PRF+ following which they were made into respective membranes.Length was assessed by graduated scale.Volume was assessed by calibrated test tubes.Statistical analysis was done using independent sample t test, Kruska-wallis test and one way ANOVA.RESULTS: There was significant difference in plain and adjunct of Ofloxacin, wherein the length of A-PRF+ membranes was significantly higher than L-PRF membranes. There was statistical significance between both genders in size of L-PRF .17.57% larger membranes were produced by female patients compared to males. On intragroup and intragroup comparison, there is no significant difference in the volume obtained among subgroups in all the three groups.CONCLUSION: Both L-PRF and A-PRF+ alone and with antibiotics has shown significance in physical properties among three groups. However, studies involving larger sample sizes and in-vivo studies are required to validate these findings.
