Synthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial Studies of Transition Metal Complexes with Triazine-5-hydrazones of o-anisaldehyde

A series of complexes of the type [ML2Cl2], where L=6-tert-butyl-4-{[1-(2-methoxyphenyl)ethylidene]amino}-3-(methylsulfanyl)-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-one (TBMO) and 4-{[(E)-(2-methoxyphenyl)methylidene]amino}-3-methyl-6-phenyl-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-one (MMAO), M=Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II), have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, thermal analysis, molar conductivity, magnetic moment, electronic, infrared, 1H-NMR spectral studies. The findings are in accordance with bidentate chelation of the ligand using nitrogen donors from rings and azomethine. These Hydrazones and their complexes have also been screened for their antibacterial (Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus stearothermophilus, Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi) and antifungal activities (Aspergillus niger and Aspergil- lus flavus).
