O surrealismo através do espelho: reflexão e aranhografia em Mário Cesariny e Maria Helena Vieira da Silva

This article discusses the concept of criticism developed by Mário Cesariny, through the close-reading of “A Grafiaranha Maior” and “O navio de espelhos”. The dialogue Cesariny establishes with Maria Helena Vieira da Silva’s paintings is related to a continuous reflection on art and poetic creation. According to Mário Cesariny, surrealism must be conceived as a research, which implies not only sailing through an interior sea – investigating the unconscious – but also mirroring the work of other artists. “A Grafiaranha Maior” and “O navio de espelhos” can be read as metapoems, and they lead us to a discussion about the epistemological possibilities established by the surrealist movement, about the impurity of language and the dialogue between writing and painting.
