DIRECTIONS OF DEVELOPMENT OF RADIO COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS BY THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION AND THE ACTUAL STATE OF THEIR APPLICATION IN THE WAR AGAINST UKRAINE
The article underscores the critical role of radio communication in modern warfare, facilitating troop coordination, intelligence sharing, and command transmission on the battlefield. Despite significant investments in radio systems, russia’s communication technology has revealed several weaknesses in combat. russian systems are vulnerable to modern electronic warfare (EW) tactics, including signal jamming and interception, which Ukrainian forces, with support from Western technologies, have effectively employed. This has exposed limitations in russia’s ability to secure reliable communication channels in the face of advanced EW operations. Comparing russian and Ukrainian radio systems, the article highlights the advantages of Ukraine’s use of NATO-standard equipment. Ukrainian forces benefit from secure, technologically advanced communication systems, offering better resistance to jamming and interception. In contrast, russian systems, such as the R-187 Azart and R-168 Akveduk, though modernized, still rely on outdated Soviet-era designs and face challenges in adapting to the high demands of modern electronic and information warfare. Looking forward, the article suggests that russia will likely prioritize the modernization of its radio systems, focusing on enhancing security and data transmission capabilities. However, ongoing economic sanctions and technological challenges could hinder russia's ability to achieve these goals and keep up with the fast-evolving demands of modern warfare.
