A Wide-Range Load Power Improvement Method of the Free-Standing Magnetic Field Energy Harverster for the Contact Line Icing Monitoring Sensors

The free-standing magnetic field energy harvester (FSMFEH) has great potential in self-powering contact line icing or dancing monitoring sensors. However, during operation, the load resistance of the sensor varies over a wide range. Since the ability of FSMFEH to output power is highly dependent on load resistance, a key challenge for FSMFEH systems is to maintain high output power over a wide load range. In this paper, an innovative method is proposed. A reconfigurable FSMFEH system with two coils combined with a three-arm rectifier is proposed. The dual-coil-three-arm (DCTA) FSMFEH system can have four operating modes by controlling the rectifier MOSFET to turn on and off. Then, by switching the system operating mode according to the actual load requirements, the proposed FSMFEH can maintain high output power over a wide load range. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed FSMFEH system is verified based on laboratory prototypes. The experimental results show that when the bus current is 100A, the output power can be maintained above 30.58 mw in the range of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$200 \Omega$</tex> to <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$2000 \Omega$</tex>.
