Impact of DERs on the Electric Sector
In the fight against climate change, the energy sector is undergoing a global transformation. By utilizing distributed energy resources (DERs), such as frequency and voltage regulation, electrical flexibility and system security are enhanced. This article examines the impacts of DERs at the energy, economic, environmental, and technical levels through a case study using the IEEE 39 standard system. Two scenarios are compared: a conventional and another with integrated DERs, which cover 20% and 14% of the system’s demand, highlighting their impact on electrical operation and planning.
