Assessing the Economic Impact on the Isolated Microgrid System of Brus Laguna during the Solar Eclipses of October 2023 and April 2024

Abstrac In our era, the electrification of isolated communities and the widespread use of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind are considered increasingly fundamental priorities to counteract the effects of climate change. While solar energy is an economical and easily implementable alternative, it is also highly susceptible to weather conditions such as clouds, rain, or eclipses. Although eclipses do not occur frequently, they significantly impact solar photovoltaic energy generation. In isolated communities with hybrid microgrids that include solar and thermal generation components, this impact is felt more intensely. This paper analyzes the impacts of two solar eclipses on an isolated microgrid in the municipality of Gracias a Dios, Honduras. The results show the effect on the balance of thermal component utilization within the microgrid and the consequent increase in costs for the community.
