Fault Location in Electrical Networks Using Meta-Heuristic Symbiotic Organisms Search

This study introduces the formulation and computational implementation of a novel application of the Symbiotic Organisms Search (SOS) meta-heuristic for solving the problem of fault location in radial electrical networks. The objected is to expedite the reestablishment of electrical energy following faults. Inspired by the symbiotic relationships found in nature, the SOS simulates these interactions to optimize performance in competitive environments. When implementing this technique, problem-specific strategies are adopted to enhance efficiency and avoid symmetric solutions. Tests were conducted on IEEE-33 bus radial electrical networks, yielding the desired results.
