A low-cost open-access navigation system for UAV applications as a redundancy system
Inertial navigation systems (INS) based on micro-electromechanical sensors (MEMS) assisted by global positioning systems (GPS) are widely used for aerospace navigation applications and provide data with high accuracy. However, they are costly and fragile. This work addresses the development of a low-cost and open-source GPS-assisted INS for navigation applications where the accuracy, practicality, and replicability obtained in this module are attractive for redundant systems in UAVs, even in tasks with risk of loss or damage. The experimental tests show the records obtained during the flight performance of the Phantom 4 Pro drone in which data from the low-cost INS is compared with the primary vehicle system.
