Energy production related to bifacial photovoltaic power plants in the scope of the ground albedo impact

The objective of this work is to analyze the impact of ground albedo on energy generation in bifacial photovoltaic plants. The methodology includes computer simulations of energy generation in a bifacial photovoltaic plant using different types of ground looking albedos response, and a case study of bifacial photovoltaic pilot unit in the field of a hydroelectric power plant is considered. Following the simulations, a financial viability is developed in view of some type of albedo soils, using a levelised cost of energy-based analysis. The results of this analysis indicated that some types of soils have a lower LCOE compared to others, supporting the hypothesis that bifacial technology enables gains in both energy generation performance and financial viability.
