Islam is a complete code of Life. All aspects of human life are highlighted in Islam with great significance. It includes ecology and the utmost importance has been given to ecology and its conservation, protection and rehabilitation. It also emphasized on the importance of preserving ecological components and protecting natural resources. Ecology is the interactions of humans, the natural environment and other living and non-living (biotic, abiotic and physical) organisms. It is dependent on interaction with humans and natural elements like sunlight, soil, air, water and vegetation etc. About five hundred verses have been revealed in the Holy Quran on ecological components. Among these about two hundred verses are related to animals. Six surahs are named after cattle and creatures. Through this, Almighty Allah informed us about the importance of ecological conservation. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) has laid special momentous on the proper use, protection and maintenance of various elements and components of Ecology. The United Nations (UN) declared the decade 2011-2020 as the “UN Decade on Bio-diversity” and the decade 2021-2030 as the “UN Decade on Ecosystem”. The United Nations also set a target to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Among these Three goals such as goal 13 (Climate Action), goal 14 (Life below Water) and goal 15 (Life on Earth) of the SDGs are related to Ecological conservation. However in Islam, about 14 centuries ago, specific and clear instructions have been given for the conservation, protection and maintenance of ecology.
