Smart Agricultural Monitoring and Automation System for Farms

Agriculture is practiced in nearly every country in the world. Agricultural practices have changed over the years and this has also changed the way people live. Due to the growth of the world’s population, the traditional way of cultivation has now become obsolete. Smart farming is certainly a leading enabler in producing more food with less effort for an increasing world population. The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the emerging technologies that can play a crucial role in smart agriculture. Our work aimed at utilizing IoT technology, web software, mobile software, and artificial intelligence (AI) to create an integrated monitoring and automation system for farms. This IoT-based agriculture monitoring system made use of wireless sensor networks to collect data from different sensor nodes deployed at various locations on the farm. The data collected was sent to the web and mobile software systems. The IoT-based monitoring system checked parameters such as water level, humidity, moisture level, etc. Data collected were sent via SMS alert to a mobile phone and the Web. Based on the information received, the system will automatically act. This may include turning on the water pump automatically, etc. The system has an AI prediction model to make approximations.
