DC Nanogrid Application in Minigrid for Rural Electrification and Humanitarian Emergencies
The electrification of rural and remote communities or communities afflicted by humanitarian emergencies caused by wars, earthquakes and floods is still a crucial challenge in some regions of the planet. The use of minigrids (mG) based on inverters for the exploitation of local renewable energy resources (Inverter Based Resources - IBRs), can facilitate the electrification process of these areas. In this context, the paper presents the use of Grid Forming (GFM) inverters based on a control model able to emulate the behavior of synchronous generators (Virtual Synchronous Generator strategy). By using this control model, frequency and voltage stability can be ensured within the mG. The validity of the proposed control model was verified through the simulation of a mG, in Ansys-Twin Builder® environment. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model in ensuring frequency stability and correct voltage regulation within the mG, in response to sudden load variations.
