Cancer plans should consider local needs
In The Lancet Global Health, Tania Alfaro and colleages1 analysed cancer mortality in 343 Latin-American cities. The authors found greater within-country than between-country heterogeneity for specific types of cancer, related to differences in the socioeconomic development of the cities studied. Few Latin American countries have published data on regional variations in cancer mortality. This work contributes to knowledge in this field and introduces robust methods that could be reproduced by other countries in the region.
