Integral Ecology: Fraternity as a Paradigm Shift

Objective: The objective of this study is to highlight the importance of Integral Ecology, the theme of the 2025 Fraternity Campaign, to promote a critical debate on socio-environmental crises and impoverishment in the world. Theoretical Framework: Based on the encyclical Laudato Si’, the concepts that structure Integral Ecology, Social Ecology, Spiritual Ecology and Deep Ecology are combined to promote a paradigm shift that can overcome the evils of anthropocentrism and promote a move away from the “point of no return” that seriously threatens our ecosystems. Research Implications: Integral Ecology proposes overcoming material alienation, a paradigm shift for the ecological transition expected by COP 30, probably one of the last chances for international agreements to promote a move away from the “point of no return” that puts life on the planet at risk. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by highlighting the importance of Brazil hosting the Conference of the Parties – COP 30 in 2025, at the same time that the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) established the theme “Fraternity and Integral Ecology” for the 2025 Fraternity Campaign.
