INTRAPERSONAL DETERMINANTS OF MOTIVATIONAL ATTITUDE TOWARDS VACCINATION: AN ANALYTICAL REVIEW

Vaccination serves as a primary procedure strengthening the body's immune system and population immunity against numerous infectious pathogens. Despite the paramount importance of vaccination for health protection, individuals respond to it differently depending on the specifics of their motivational attitude, which initiates specific vaccination behavior in accordance with the social context (variability in vaccine acceptance, delay or refusal of vaccination). The motivational attitude towards vaccination, primarily determined by the factorial and processual personality determinants (its traits and cognitive-behavioral aspects), is actively and thoroughly studied by Russian-speaking psychologists within the framework of the activity theory. However, the results obtained in this field of research remain disjointed. Thereby, analytical review of relevant material was conducted that was found using search tools from the online library eLibrary.Ru in journals included in the list of the Russian Higher Attestation Commission, as well as in authoritative book publications. A multicomponent structure of the motivational attitude towards vaccination has been identified, which integrates various motivators consolidated by a system of personality potential. This reflects a synergistic complex of volitional self-sufficiency necessary for the supra-situational management of one's health, either directly or indirectly in conjunction with society. It is concluded that the reviewed publications are incomplete and fragmented, which hinders the development of a comprehensive understanding of the intrapersonal factors involved in vaccination (or anti-vaccination) behavior. It is suggested that an incremental approach to identifying such factors and conducting a comprehensive analysis will provide practical benefits in improving healthcare methods to enhance people's predisposition to immunoprophylaxis.
