Hybrid Passivity-Based Current Controller Design for Electric Vehicles

With the growing demand for sustainable transportation, the control of current in Electric Vehicles (EVs) is crucial for ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the vehicle's powertrain. Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) play a significant role in EVs. Efficient control of current in PMSMs not only enhances the performance of EVs but also contributes to extending their driving range and overall longevity. In this paper, a complete mathematical model of an EV is presented using Newton-Euler formulation. Hybrid Passivity-Based Current Controller (PBCC), incorporating Sliding Mode Control (SMC), is proposed for controlling the PMSM in EVs. The SMC is integrated with the PBCC to design the desired torque dynamics, aiming to improve performance. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed PBCC with SMC compared to the Field-Oriented Control (FOC).
