Simulation Model of Logistics Processes for Baggage Handling at Airports

Simulation modelling of logistics processes in baggage handling at airports is an important tool for optimising and streamlining processes within air transport. Airport logistics systems must cope with the ever-increasing number of passengers and baggage, emphasizing safety, reliability and speed. The baggage handling process can be analysed and optimised using simulation models, from handover, sorting, and transportation to delivery to the aircraft or baggage belt upon arrival. These models make it possible to identify bottlenecks in the process, test different scenarios, and design solutions that improve the fluidity and capacity of the system. This paper aims to optimize and streamline airport baggage handling logistics processes using simulation modeling, focusing on improving safety, reliability, and efficiency. The baggage handling process is considered from transfer and sorting to transportation and loading using Discrete Event Simulation (DES) and Agent Based Modeling (ABM). This allows us to test different scenarios and identify bottlenecks in the process. These methods provide a realistic representation of the ever-changing dynamics of airport operations, which increases resource efficiency, reduces costs, and improves customer satisfaction. To ensure that departure schedules are met and save human costs, the simulation tool allows for the best allocation of manpower based on the number of baggage items, arrival times, and processing system data.
