A Dual Radar-Based Side/Blind Zone Tracking System for Improved VRU Safety
Blind spots and poor side vision present a high risk to vulnerable road users (VRU). For increased safety, the deployment of advanced detection system become a requirement, as mentioned in European General Safety Regulation 2 (GSR 2). This paper proposes a cost-efficient side/blind zone detection system using dual radar fusion that offers reliable all-weather performance. The proposed system employs two short-range radars for multi-object detection and tracking. Through testing in various real-world scenarios, we evaluated the system's performance using specific metrics. Results demonstrate that the proposed system achieves promising performances.
