Boundary Layer Turbulence Identification in the Vicinity of Svidnik Airport

This article aims to provide information on the occurrence of turbulence in the atmospheric boundary layer as a hazardous weather phenomenon near Svidnik Airport. Flying in the traffic pattern and approaching for landing requires pilots to have heightened situational awareness, focus on piloting techniques, precise flight path planning, and proper maneuvering for landing. When turbulence is added to these factors, it can increase stress, especially for student pilots or pilots with limited experience landing at this airport. This article offers an overview of areas where turbulence occurs during traffic patterns, depending on the direction of the runway in use. These areas were identified based on a theoretical analysis of the terrain features around Svidnik Airport. Subsequently, these areas were practically identified through validation flights conducted by the co-author of this article as well as by students of the Faculty of Aeronautics in study program Pilot, who conduct educational flights from this airport.
