Hybrid Technology for Assessing the Fatigue Level of Air Traffic Controllers Using Video Surveillance

The article presents the research results on developing a hybrid technology for assessing air traffic controller fatigue using video surveillance and expert opinion. The technology makes it possible to obtain quantitative and linguistic levels of fatigue of air traffic controllers to signal to the manager to make proactive decisions to improve air traffic safety. The hybrid technology consists of three successive stages, which have their acceptable levels, namely: assessment of fatigue of air traffic controllers based on video surveillance and specialized software; expert evaluation of the level of fatigue of air traffic controllers; a hybrid technology that combines video surveillance data and expert judgment to derive a comprehensive linguistic level of fatigue for air traffic controllers. The hybrid technology was verified and configured on the real data of the work of air traffic controllers, where the participants were students of the Faculty of Aeronautics of the Technical University of Košice.
