Enhancing Maritime Port Sustainability: The Impact of Smart Energy Management Systems - Review with Proposed Novel Solution

The paper represents review of present energy management system sin maritime ports and propose novel solution as a response to the technical challenges posed by EU directives 2023/1804 and 2023/1805 to all port communities, for which there is no available commercial solution. Port communities, as strategic points of maritime development and centers of international trade, are significant consumers of energy, and with their traditional energy system are a source of greenhouse gas emissions. In the long-term context of financially demanding carbon neutrality, infrastructural development and the use of new forms of energy are needed to transform port communities into low-carbon energy hubs. However, by combining advanced measurement techniques and related software solutions for energy management (Energy Management System - EMS) with the use of adaptive algorithms, it is possible to initiate the energy transition and ensure its sustainability in the long term through the optimization of energy management with the aim of reducing harmful emissions.
