Local Air Quality Studies for Supersonic Aircraft
The primary goal of SENECA (LTO noiSe and EmissioNs of supErsoniC Aircraft) project is to provide a basis for decision making of environmentally friendly supersonic aircraft design taken into account the detailed modelling of the emissions, the LTO noise and the local/global environmental impacts. One of the task of SENECA project to perform local air quality tasks for designed SST aircraft. Analysis of instantaneous calculated concentrations of CO and NOx for M1.8, B707 and Concord due to measurement campaign at DIA demonstrated the same trend as emission rates ratio of considered aircraft for taxi and take-off conditions. The concentration envelope of NOx (area of M1.8 airliner influence) is bounded by the 20 μg/m3 with represents a small fraction of t hour standard of 200 μg/m3. The area of influence ofM1.8 airliner for NOx (take-off and taxing conditions) is smaller than those predicted ones for Concord. The considered cases the areas of influence of B707, Concord and M1.8 airliner for take-off and taxi conditions are restricted to areas near the aircraft pathway, well within the airport boundaries.
