Multi-objective Optimization for Optimum Distributed Generation Integration in Distribution Networks
The increasing penetration of distributed generation (DG) in electric power networks requires robust planning and allocation strategies to maximize benefits and mitigate potential challenges. This study presents a comprehensive techno-economic analysis of optimal DG placement within distribution networks. This paper considers key technical aspects, including voltage profile improvement, reduction of power loss, and enhanced reliability, alongside economic factors such as installation costs, operational expenses, and potential participation in the energy market. A combined optimization approach is employed, leveraging FOX algorithm to calculate the optimal size, position, and type of distributed generation units. The validation of the methodology is demonstrated using case studies on the 200-bus Illinois network, demonstrating the effectiveness of the presented approach in achieving significant technical and economic improvements. To assess the performance and potential of the suggested technique, two distinct cases were executed. The results highlight the importance of considering both technical and economic factors in DG allocation for maximizing the overall benefit to the distribution system and stakeholders.
